Crash Accommodation in Washington DC
A friend of mine is trying to track down crash accommodation in Washington DC for Barack Obama’s inauguration. Does anyone have any friends there? Or any suggestions? Or place they’d suggest posting this?
Thanks in advance for all help! Current Mood: hopeful

Help Cats Protection
I've just heard on the news that Cats' Protection
had £11.2 million of it's money in the collapsed Icelandic bank which is all over the news. They don't know if/when they'll get it back :-( So if you have anything at all to spare please send them a donation. For those who don't know Cats' Protection is the United Kingdom's biggest cat-specific charity, helping nearly 160,000 felines a year - and they don't kill healthy animals.

three strikes and your off the net for life - we have today SUNDAY to crosspost this everywhere
In a nutshell: Members of the European Parliament were asked to vote for a draconian three-strikes-and-you're-out policy that would force ISPs to monitor users for signs of file sharing behaviour and cut them off. They very sensibly voted against it. Now an entirely different bill is before the IMCO and ITRE committee — a sensible and boring Telecoms Package — and a whole bunch of stealth Intellectual Property Rights amendments which have crawled out of the woodwork. And guess what they're about?
If you live in the EU, read this now
(then act on it, please).
think this doesn't apply to you because you don't download?
its not a big step to three strikes for an illegal or imoral act!

Peace One Day
Hope the mod doesn't think this too OT, but I thought it would be good for people to know.
As this is my first post on this community I thought I'd make it a meaningful one. As I'm typing this it's 1.39am. I'm usually in bed by now, but I've been watching a documentary on television that had me so riveted I had to stay up and watch it in its entirity.
It was called Peace One Day and told the story of the United Nations Day Of Peace and the guy that has done so much to get it recognised.
I have to say at this point, to be perfectly honest I'd not heard of it until I watched this programme.
Here's a link to the BBC website and the page about it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/documentaries/storyville/peace-one-day.shtml
I have put a post in my own journal about this that I have made public (most of my posts are friends only).
It would be fantastic if the other members of this community could link to this link
and in turn urge their friends to also, and so on. This year's Day is this coming Wednesday, September 21st. The website also includes a link for initiatives for this year here
I really do believe that this is so important that we need to do what we can to spread the word.

http://www.justgiving.com/flannelcatSPONSOR ME TO WALK ON FIRE?
October 15th is the date of the firewalk, which means it isn't long.
Seriously guys, this is a great cause, and means you get to watch video of me
burning my feet
And I KNOW some of don't have credit debit/cards, or really DON'T have £3 / £5 / £10 to spare, so if you CAN'T offer the price of two pints of snakebite to help those in need, then pass the link on and ask your friends to do the same?
I'll be pleased to see this cropping up on other people's journals. :)

EYECONS v 2.1, with aologies for x-posting.
IT'S HERE AGAINLadies and gentlemen, I will be collecting eyecons here, in an open, unlocked post.
PLEASE can you post links to this in your journals and ask your friends to do the same.
Last year the response was magnificent, and resulted in THIS.
Can this year's attempt be even better?
Much help on this would be appreciated. Last year it was all of YOU that made it. *Grin*

Huzzah! Bad self is way mattering
. Did you know that Tony Blair's nickname at school was 'Emily'? Trivial Pursuit has its purposes, though ne'er so crass as to be readily apparent.

Apologies for the spam, but I thought that if anyone would be up for taking part in my research, nearly_everyone
For those of you who don't already know, I am investigating what degree the need for affiliation plays in an individual's involvement in internet memes, LJ memes in particular. Love them or hate them, they do seem to be a huge part of Livejournal and I am interested in finding out why.
I would be so grateful if you could take 10 minutes to complete a questionnaire here
. The definitions of meme are left deliberately obscure, it is more about your own definition.
Also, if any of you generous peeps out there who wouldn't mind pimping the questionnaire to your friends list you will always hold a special place in my heart :) Current Mood: hopeful
